Video greetings
What’s actually free,
and what just says free.
A personalised video from Santa — or from Ježíšek, Sinterklaas or the Three Kings — costs anywhere from nothing to about fifteen dollars. The difference between those two numbers is mostly in what the word “free” is doing on the homepage.
🎬 Make a free video from Santa now — no sign-upHow these videos are made
Nearly every one of these is the same thing under the surface: a clip of a performer recorded once, with the child’s name and a handful of variable lines dropped in. That is why the name field comes first on every form, and why an unusual name sometimes lands oddly — it is either stitched from a library of recorded names or read by a synthetic voice.
A newer group generates the whole clip with AI instead. It is cheaper to operate and usually looks it, but it removes the ceiling on personalisation: age, behaviour, the requested present and the family’s own details can all go into the script instead of being picked from a menu.
Neither approach is better by default. What separates them in practice is whether you see the result on screen or wait for an email, and whether the figure speaking is the one your family actually celebrates.
Before you pay
Five things worth checking, in this order
- 01
Does the free tier show you the result?
The single most useful question. A free render that arrives by email is a mailing-list signup with a video attached. A free render that plays on screen is a free render.
- 02
Is there a watermark?
Rarely stated on the pricing page, and it is the difference between something a child watches once and something a family keeps.
- 03
Which figure, and in which language?
55 countries, and 20 of them have more than one gift-bringer on more than one date. A service that only offers a red-suited Santa is the wrong product in Czechia, the Netherlands, Spain and much of central Europe.
- 04
What is the real price per child?
Several providers price per video rather than per household. A family with three children is buying three videos, and the group option — where it exists — is usually a few dollars more than one, not three times.
- 05
How late can you order?
Free tiers in this category are seasonal and close early. One category leader's free trial has historically run only to around 19 December.
The providers, and what we could confirm
13 of 36 records were opened and checked by hand. The rest are listed because they exist and operate in a market, not because we can vouch for a price or a feature. Anything unchecked says so.
| Service | Free version | Signup needed | From | Photo in video | Call |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Portable North Pole | Limited | Not verified | Not published | Yes | Yes |
| The largest service in this category and the one most people arrive at first. The free tier is a short trial, and it has historically closed around 19 December. Prices are not shown anywhere public — you see them by going through the flow. | |||||
| Synthesia Santa | Yes | No | Not published | Not verified | Not verified |
| Free, and no account is needed — but it asks for an email address to deliver the video, so the result arrives in an inbox rather than on screen. You pick a template and edit a short script. | |||||
| CreatorKit AI Santa | Yes | No | Not published | No | No |
| Free and no account needed. You pick one of a few templates, type what Santa should say — there is a button that drafts it for you — and give an email address. It takes about seven minutes and lands in the inbox. AI-generated and it looks it, so it suits a message to an adult better than a small child who will study the face. | |||||
| EmailSanta | Yes | No | Not published | No | No |
| An instant written reply, first name only, no account. Letters only — there is no video and no call. | |||||
| Pozdrav od Ježíška | No | No | 119 CZK | No | No |
| A physical postcard delivered by post, not a digital letter. Three tiers from 119 CZK; orders reopen at the end of October. | |||||
| Wunschbiber | Yes | No | Not published | Not verified | Not verified |
| Not a letter service: a guide to the official German postal addresses for the Weihnachtsmann, the Christkind and Nikolaus, with their deadlines and templates. | |||||
| Carta Personalizada | Limited | Yes | €7.95 | No | Not verified |
| A printable PDF letter. Sending is free; the reply costs €7.95. A form with the child’s name, age and town is required. | |||||
| Elfi | No | Not verified | $7.99 | Yes | Not verified |
| Santatelevision | No | Not verified | Not published | Not verified | No |
| Not a video service, despite ranking like one — it is a Rovaniemi TV channel, and its video and call buttons are affiliate links to Portable North Pole. What is its own is the letter: a genuine posted letter from Lapland, fulfilled by Posti, the Finnish post office. Worth it for the postmark; order early, because it crosses the Atlantic by post. | |||||
| Hey Santa | Yes | No | Not published | Yes | No |
| Free, no account, and it takes a photo and a few details rather than picking from a list — the video is written around what you type, not a stock clip with a name dropped in. It renders in a few minutes and is emailed to you, so it arrives in an inbox rather than on screen. Same company as the Figments storybook app. | |||||
| Santa Mail | No | No | $14.99 | Not verified | Yes |
| A posted paper letter, not a video — packages run $14.99 to $79.99 and every one includes a free phone call from Santa. Extra calls are $3 upward. The call picks the child's name from a fixed library, so check it is there first. Posted, so it has a shipping deadline in early December and nothing after that will arrive in time. | |||||
| Santa's Hotline | Yes | No | Not published | Not verified | Yes |
| Free, no account, no payment — but read the direction carefully. The child calls Santa on 1 (605) 313-0691 and leaves a message; Santa does not call them. From a mobile you get a text back with the recording, which is the nicest thing about it. Run by a telecom as seasonal marketing, so it is genuinely free rather than free-with-an-upsell. | |||||
| My Santa Message | No | No | $2.99 | Yes | No |
| The cheapest video here at $2.99 for the short version, $5.99 for the longer one, and you can attach a photo. The catch is the name: Santa reads it from a pre-recorded library of about 2,400, so check yours is on the list before paying — an unusual spelling will not be. Delivered by email within about six hours, not instantly. | |||||
| USPS Operation Santa | Yes | Not verified | Not published | Not verified | Not verified |
| The official United States postal programme, not a video service. Free, and it has a posting deadline — check it before relying on a reply arriving in time. | |||||
| La Poste — Père Noël | Yes | Not verified | Not published | Not verified | Not verified |
| The official French postal service. Free, and its posting deadline is the fact that matters most — the secretariat replies to every letter that arrives in time. | |||||
| Slovenská pošta — Vianočná pošta | Yes | Not verified | Not published | Not verified | Not verified |
| The official Slovak postal programme. Free, with a posting deadline. | |||||

By country
The right figure matters more than the right provider
Each country page names the figure children there actually expect, gives the date the presents arrive, and lists only the services that operate in that market — in that country’s own language.

Questions people actually ask
- Are personalised Santa videos really free?
- Some are. Most are not, in the way people mean the word. The common pattern is a free tier that renders a short clip but asks for an email address before it shows you anything, so the result arrives in an inbox rather than on screen. A smaller number put a watermark on the free output. Of the providers we checked by hand, the genuinely free-and-instant ones are the minority, and we mark which is which rather than repeating the word 'free' from a homepage.
- How do these videos actually work?
- Almost all of them are a pre-rendered clip of a performer, with the child's name and a few variable lines swapped in. That is why the name is always the first field and why unusual names sometimes sound wrong: the name is either spliced from a recorded library or spoken by a synthetic voice. A few newer services generate the whole clip with AI, which is faster to set up and usually looks it.
- Does the free version have a watermark?
- Sometimes, and it is rarely stated on the pricing page. This is one of the fields we record per provider, and it is also one of the fields we most often have to leave as 'not verified' — the only way to know for certain is to go through the flow, and prices and terms in this category change during December.
- Is it still Santa in every country?
- No, and this is the part most comparison pages get wrong. In Czechia the presents come from Ježíšek, in the Netherlands from Sinterklaas on 5 December, in Spain and Mexico from the Three Kings on 6 January. A video from a red-suited Santa is simply the wrong character in a good part of Europe, and several of the providers listed here operate under a different name and a different figure depending on the market.
- When should I order one?
- Earlier than feels necessary. Free tiers in this category are seasonal and several close before Christmas — one category leader's free trial has historically been available only to around 19 December. Paid orders are usually instant or same-day, but the cheap tiers sell out of delivery slots in the last week.
